Prayer for Peace

I have had these antique chandelier Crystals for several years.  In a world that is filled with war and violence I decided to create a Christmas ornament that would be a visual reminder of my prayer for this Christmas.

I started with Sandra Evertsons Dresden wings and Relics and artifact Milagros.  Tim Holtz bottle brush wreath cut in half and reformed and peace from Tim Holtz sizzix handwritten holidays.

I covered the wings with glossy accents and then sprinkled them with Diamond Dust and let the wings dry.

I then covered the praying angle with Pebeo glitter medium and let it dry.

I assembled the ornament by using E6000 to attach wings, praying child, crystal, peace word and wreath .   After they dried I hung it on the tree.

Here is how it looks on the tree with and without lights.

I hope that the peace of Christmas will invade your life this year.

Journey through Advent Day 4

Advent Journey day 4

Genesis 3:4-6New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not die; for God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God,[a]knowing good and evil.” So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate; and she also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate.

WHY DO WE NEED A SAVIOR…

Adam and Eve and entered into an agreement with God.   They could have the whole garden except for the fruit of one tree…   It wasn’t just hunger that lead Adam and Eve to the point of being disobedient.  Adam and Eve just couldn’t stop themselves from taking a bite of the fruit that looked so good.    Temptation makes us feel starved.

Temptation in my mind is really more about placing trust in self over what I know to be true.  (God as truth)   An example..  I know that the lack of exercise will cause me to have more health problems.  However I knowing choose not to exercise thinking that somehow because I am Kent I will not suffer the consequences. Now I know I am wrong, but I justify it in my mind that way until I come face to face with the consequences of my decision.

It is the same thing for Adam and Eve. They made the decision to take matters in their own hands, thinking that somehow if they had what they wanted (the fruit) they would not suffer the consequences of their decision.  But as we see the story unfold we know that is incorrect.  They quickly discover what happens to people when they break trust with God. They become slaves to their own desires and it leads to exile from the garden and ultimately it leads to death.

NT Write says it this way: “In Genesis, and indeed for much of the Old Testament, the controlling image for death is exile. Adam and Eve were told that they would die on the day they ate the fruit; what actually happened was that they were exiled from the garden.”

N.T. Wright, Surprised by Hope

To be freed from exile we needed a SAVIOR!

I am not sure what temptations are causing you to live in exile this Advent season?   I pray that you will seek out the one who came to save!.

Journey through Advent Day 3…

Advent journey day 3

John 1:9-12 New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world.[a]

10 He was in the world, and the world came into being through him; yet the world did not know him. 11 He came to what was his own,[b] and his own people did not accept him. 12 But to all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave power to become children of God

Today I am reminded that I am only a traveler here on earth.   We all begin our journey in darkness and don’t truly know who our creator.is or that He wants to have a relationship with us.  I remember the first time I experienced the LIGHT of Jesus.  I was ten years old,  It was an overwhelming experience to embrace Christs unconditional love and become aware that I am a “Child of God”.

If during this advent season we say we retelling or reliving the story of how dark the world was before Christ.   It should also should remind us what our lives were like when we too were living in darkness.

When I was young I couldn’t begin to understand what verse 12 ment. ” But to all who have received Him, who have believed in His name, He gave POWER to become children of God.”  My favorite Spider man quote “With great power comes great responsibility”.  I am reminded that because I am a Child Of God I too have a responsibility to be a light to the darkness that surrounds our world: To bring hope not despair, generosity instead of stinginess, offer forgiveness instead of hate, and peace instead of violence!

I hope as you travel through this advent season that you will truly embrace what it means to be called a Child of God…

John 1:1-5The Message (MSG)

The Life-Light

1-2 The Word was first,
the Word present to God,
    God present to the Word.
The Word was God,
in readiness for God from day one.

3-5 Everything was created through him;
    nothing—not one thing!—
    came into being without him.
What came into existence was Life,
and the Life was Light to live by.
The Life-Light blazed out of the darkness;
the darkness couldn’t put it out.

This year I have decided to art journal daily through Advent.   It is my hope that some how going through the motions of being creative daily will help me understand God a little better.  He is a creative God and just as he struggles with his creation I will struggle with my art journal in trying to find ways to express what Advent means to me.

Todays entry started by listening to the morning news,   The camo back ground represents that there is war and strife going on everywhere,  In many ways I feel there is this silence from God just as there was before the birth of Christ.  I am sure that Gods heart breaks and wonders when will His creation learn that they were created to love and nurture and not hate and murder each other.

I am reminded this time of year that out of the chaos God has a plan to make things right.  His plan doesn’t include Power or Violence but Love and Weakness.   I hope as you journey through this Advent season to look for the light in the darkness and don’t be surprised if it shows up in ways that you would have never imagined.
